So first let me disclaim...this is not in relation to my own life. Even though since the last time I posted here I have had some EPIC family drama: my dad has been diagnosed with Alzheimer's; I have discovered that extreme and chronic stress is the ultimate diet; I got Netflix; I fell in love, got my heart smashed into tiny fragments of woe; and am now back to swiping on Bumble. But I assure you, I am good.
In fact, what I was referring to was the inauguration of the 45th President of the United States, Mr. Donald Trump. Aka The Number One Bad Hombre. The Pussy Grabber Extraordinaire. Cheeto Satan. A man who ran on a searing platform of bigotry, bullying, sexism, Islamophobia, homophobia, xenophobia...you see where I am going with this. And who, despite all this, was elected by something like 50% of white women. Go figure.
Today, the 21st of January, is the day after the inauguration. It is the day of the Women's March. A global event where hundreds of thousands of pink-hatted women, men, and children took to the streets to stand up and speak for the values we hold to be self-evident - inclusiveness, civility, humanity, equality, and diversity. And although I did not march, what I did do was reflect on what my civic engagement would look like beyond today. Because we are now playing a long game.
So to everyone: Donate to organizations fighting the good fight. Don't stay silent. Speak up. Take a stand. Educate yourself. Question everything.
We shall overcomb indeed.
